A. Agricultural classification:

i. Field crops : wheat, rice, maize, etc. 

ii. Commercial crops: sugarcane, cotton, tobacco, etc.

 

B. On the basis of crop season:

i. Kharif crops:

  • Also called summer crops.
  • Example: rice, maize, bajra, pulses, etc.

 

ii. Rabi crops:

  • Also called winter crops.
  • Example: gram, wheat, barley, peas, mustard, tobacco, potato, etc. 

 

ⅲ. Perennial crops

  • They grow and require water for irrigation throughout the year. 
  • Example: sugarcane, fruit, etc

 

iv. Eight months crop: Cotton.

 

C. On the basis of irrigation requirements 

i. Dry crop : No water required for irrigation.

ii. Wet crop : Cannot grow without irrigation.

iii. Garden Crop: Require irrigation throughout the year.
