2.2. Crop types

A. Agricultural classification:

i. Field crops : latheat, rice, maize, etc. 

ii. Commercial crops: Sugarcane, cotton, Tobacco, etc.

B. On the basis of crop season:

i. Kharif crops:

Also called summer crops.

Example: Rice, Maize, Bajra, Pulses, etc.

ii. Rabi crops:

Also called winter crops.

Example: Gram, wheat, barley, peas, mustard, tobacco, potato, etc. 

ⅲ. Perennial crops

They grow and require water for irrigation throughout the year. 

Example: Sugarcane, fruit, etc

iv. Eight months crop: Cotton.

C. On the basis of irrigation requirements 

Dry crop : No water required for irrigation.

Wet crop : Cannot grow without irrigation.

Garden Crop: Require irrigation throughout the year.
