The different types of  tapes are as follows:

i. Cloth or Tape:

  • Made up of closely woven linen.

  • are varnished to resist moisture. 

  • Used for making offset measurements. 

  • Length. 10-30m.

  • Width: 12-15 mm



ii. Metallic Tape

  • Made up of linen and reinforced with brass and copper wires to prevent stretching or twisting of fibres. 

  • Measurements are accurate than linen tape 

  • Used for taking offset. 

  • Length. 20m or 30m.

 

ⅲ. Steel Tape

  • Made up of steel strips of 6mm to 10mm.

  • Length: 20m, 30m and 50m.

  • More accurate than metallic tapes

  • A brass ring is provided at the end of the tape.

  • The length of the metal ring is included in the length of the tape.

 

iv. Invar tape:

  • Invar tapes are made up of an alloy of nickel (36%) and Steel (64%)

  • Width: 6mm, Length: 30m, 50m and 100m 

  • Used for a high degree of precision in measurement.
