1.1 Introduction to building

A building is a structure with walls & a roof that stands permanently is one place & serves various purpose such as shelter, living space, work space, storage, etc.
Buildings are one of the most important aspects of human civilization.
Buildings can be classified into different types on the basis of their function. They are:

i. Residential Building

ii. Assembly Building

iii. Educational Building

iv. Hospitals & Clinics Building

v. Commercial Buildings

vi. Official Building

vii. Industrial Building

viii. Storage Building

They are explained below:

i. Residential Building
Used for purposes such as homes, apartments, housing, bungalows, etc.
They can vary in size & shape depending on location.

ii. Assembly Building
Used for gathering of people for recreation, social, religious or cultural purpose.
For example: Theatres, Museum, Restaurants, clubs, Church, Temples, etc.

iii. Educational Building
Used for school or college purpose.

It involves assembly area.
Used for instruction, education or recreation purpose.

It involves classroom, libraries, laboratories, etc.

iv. Hospital & Clinics Buildings
Used for keeping person suffering from physical or mental illness disease & to provide care for infants or aged person.

v. Commercial buildings.
Used for shop, markets, scale of merchandise, malls or departmental store purpose.

vi. Official Buildings
Used for official or business, etc.
for example, Bank, Government office, organizations, etc.

vii. Industrial Buildings.
Used for manufacturing, assembling & processing products or materials.

viii. Storage Buildings
Used for storing goods, products, merchandise, etc.
